The Mystery of Birth Revealed
The Personality Pattern
Medical science is familiar with the co-mingling of the male sperm and the fe¬male ovum, but it is unaware of the operations of the incoming animating soul. The revelation of this, one of the most marvelous of all mysteries, must come through the comprehension of inner plane factors which are the directive agents behind the process.
Neither the male sperm nor the female ovum, nor any resulting combination of the two, carries an inherent part of itself any factor of intelligence or any other indication of mind. They can, at their combined best, only produce a mass of vacuous protoplasm. After all, the dense physical form is composed of only a com-bination of 65% oxygen, 18% carbon, 10% hydrogen, 3% nitrogen, 2% calcium, 1% phosphorus, and 1% of combined potassium, sodium, chlorine, magnesium, iron, iodine, fluorine, and silicon.
But what is the power behind this protoplasmic mass which causes it to shape itself into a human form? What gives it eyes, ears, hands? What causes the senses of seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, and smelling to function? Surely not the sperm nor the ovum. To concede the presence of an overshadowing spirit and soul, which possesses the properties of the mind, is to take the first comprehensive step toward unraveling the mystery of birth, and to open the way for further, enlightenment. When man first aspired to fathom the unsolved enigmas of the universe he was admonished; Man, know thyself. A study of esoteric embryology makes clear the reasoning behind this admonition.
The mystic sees the creation of a new form within a female as a minute reproduction of the creation of the universe. He refers to the male sperm as the germ and the female ovum as the ray. The ovum is the human egg. The ovum is negative and passive in nature, as the feminine aspect almost always is. The sperm is active and positive in nature, as the masculine principle always is. Until and unless the ovum is impregnated by a sperm, it is not chemically possible for it to begin the process of reproduction. The sperm, of itself, is equally unqualified chemically to perform the function of reproduction. The combination of the two is necessary.
Three requisites are necessary to bring a soul into new manifestation:
1. the sperm of the male
2. the ovum of the female
3. the influence of the incoming soul
The moment of physical conception occurs when the male sperm embeds itself within the female ovum or egg. But what transpires prior to this dramatic moment so far as the soul is concerned? what incredible divine laws are at work in this most mysterious of all human functions? The writings of the magnificent ZQHAR describe it perfectly:
"At connubial intercourse on earth, the Holy One — blessed be He -- sends a human form which bears the impress of the divine stamp. This form is present at intercourse, and if we were permitted to see it, we should perceive over our heads an image resembling the human face, and it is in this image that we are formed. As long as this image is not sent by God and does not descend and hover over our heads, there can be no conception. This image receives us When we enter the world, it develops us when we grow and accompanies us when we depart this life."
This "image" is the auric cloud in which you repose on the astral plane, awaiting your earthly birth. After physical birth the embryonic incasement called the placenta, which surrounded your form inside the mother's womb, is discarded. But man never becomes detached from the magnetic field through which he originally came into physical plane existence. This magnetic field could be likened to a higher plane spiritual placenta, which we call the auric egg.
You repose within the lower portion of this auric egg there on the astral, surrounded by your new mental-astral sheaths. These new sheaths, influenced by the seed atoms, create the exact pattern of your mental and emotional personality during your coming earth life, Covering you, the soul, they compose a reflected image of what will become the personality. Thus we call it the personality image.
It is distinguished from your soul only in that the personality is that portion of the whole which will manifest as the waking consciousness in the physical form during this one coming incarnation. It is the personality, covering the soul and reflecting all its "strength's" and weaknesses, which gains new experiences for the soul in the earthly school of life. Each new incarnation erases much of the karmic record in the heart seed atom, and places a new — and usually better — karmic record there. Each lifetime adds mental power to the mental seed atom, and somewhat stabilizes the astral seed atom, so that each personality image differs from the last, registering that which you learn and develop during each incarnation.
It is absolutely your own creation, something you alone have built throughout the dim ages of time since you first left the Father's House as a spark of God we call the Monad. Within this personality image, in the permanent seed atoms, lies one complete record of all you have been and are now. This record is subject to change and growth as you further perfect and purify yourself during each incarnation,
This is not your causal force field, for the causal can contain only that which is perfect and spiritual. The causal remains on the causal plane as a part of the soul Oversoul force field of concentrated power, represented in our drawings as the lotus flower. The soul has been projected from this Garden of Eden and is taking upon itself a coat of skin. The mental-astral sheaths are the first two coats of mental-astral "skin." This covering, reflecting the soul, is what we call the personality image.
It is incarnating for this one par-ticular life, reflecting all your soul's innate perfections and imperfections , character weaknesses and strengths , talents and limitations .
After the parents who are to be the channel for your coming birth are selected, the law of attraction draws from your own sutratma (the silver cord extending between you and your Monad and your soul-Oversoul on the causal plane) a stream of sutratmic energy and connects it with the sutratma of your future father."
The sutratma extends down to the base of the spine. In the physical form it becomes the sushumnna, which is the etheric spinal cord extend¬ing from the base of the spine to the top of the head. A reflection of your personality image, then, is transmitted from its place on the astral plane clear down to the base of the spine of your future father, and penetrates the fluids within the gonads.
Every sperm within his semen mirrors a reflection of your personality image. Its reflection in the father's reproductive fluids registers a positive polarity and is extremely active. This is the condition of the male just prior to conception. Without this reflection within the sperm, the male is sterile.
This reflection involves the particular genes which are supplied by your father. Once transferred to the female ovum, the reflection is again mirrored in genes which are to be supplied by your mother. These infinitesimal particles hold the pattern of the future YOU - the color of your eyes, your hair, your skin, your size, your entire physical appearance,
Prior to conception the condition of the female ovum might be likened to that of the universe : In the beginning, . .the earth (ovum) was without form (without the germ of a form within it), and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
Before conception the ovum is "the face of the deep" where only "darkness" exists. It is the cosmic waters. without the presence of the reflection of a personality image, the male sperm within the semen of the male is germ-free , containing no parental potential. Any intercourse between these two, this male and female, will not result in conception, for as said in the ZOHAR: As long as this image is not sent by Cod and does not descend and hover over our* heads, there can be no conception.
In the female, Mother Nature has provided a natural cycle for reproduction, causing her to become fertile during certain days, and sterile during others.
After your sutratma has been connected with that of your prospective father, a tremendous change occurs in him. The male semen is permeated, with a cosmic fire arid each sperm, actively reflecting the personality image, is endowed with a life-giving principle which creates parental potential in the otherwise sterile sperm.
In earlier days medical science was divided in its opinion , creating two groups called the Spermists and the Ovists. The Spermists believed that the sperm of the male semen contained the entire potential of reproducing form and that the ovum simply supplied the nutritive soil for its development. The Ovists, on the other hand, taught that the ovum contained within itself the embryonic potential and that the sperm simply activated and quickened the germs within the ovum.
Both these beliefs have given way to epigenesis , which is the concept that both the sperm and the ovum contribute equally in the process of birth.
Following conception; after the ovum has absorbed the sperm, a change in polarity occurs. The once negative polarity of the female now becomes extremely positive and will remain so during the entire period of her gestation. This is the only period in a woman's life when she registers a powerful positive polarity, being inherently negative at all other times. It is the action of the positive pranic ether combined with the action of the positive sperm within the ovum which creates the effect.
Prior to Conception
Following conception the personality image, via the sutratma, now becomes attached not only to your father, but to your mother. At the moment of conception the cosmic fire and the cosmic waters have united in the ovum, the impact of which causes an intense wave of magnetic power to surge into the sutratmic cord which extends from the mother's womb to the personality image where the dormant permanent physical seed atom lies sleeping. Just as intense mental power was directed by the Celestial Guardian to the mental seed atom and the astral seed atom to awaken them, just so does the force created by conception flowing up the sutratma cause the physical seed atom to awaken, and it becomes activated,
It begins to attract ethers out of the etheric kingdom, which include the four physical ethers — the electric, pranic, light, and mental reflecting -- which are harmonious with its own rate of vibration. But it does not build the etheric body into the personality image, as were built the mental and astral bodies. It sends the ethers pouring down the sutratma and into the embryo to build the etheric body in the womb of the mother.
The ethers flow by means of the life cord, which becomes active at the moment of conception. The life cord, as you know, is inside and a part of the sutratma The etheric body, building inside the womb of the moth-er, is the matrix upon which the atoms of your physical form will be built, according to your karma and your present mission in incarnation.
Just as your new mental body was built according to the power within your mental seed atom, and just as your astral form was built according to the qualities within your astral seed atom, just so is the etheric built according to your entire background from the time when you first manifested in the human kingdom to the present.
Your new etheric body pattern is built according to your karma as registered within the physical seed atom, and according to the mission which you are coming to fulfill during this one incarnation. As the etheric pattern takes shape, it draws to itself from the region of the solids, liquids and gases of the dense physical plane the atoms which will compose your physical form.
During the first four months your embryo takes no definite shape. It is in a state of constant change as it passes through all the evolutionary kingdoms of being - exhibiting first the semblance of a mineral, then a plant, followed by the fish stage, and on into the animal kingdom. After this process, it finally assumes the human shape.
