The Letter H
Happy Mood
As much as possible, you have to be in your happy state of mood when eating. Even the environment and people around the table could adversely affect your mood. That’s why the dining table is not a good place to discuss sensitive topics.
It is also ideal that you should be in relax mood, and try to avoid the pitfall brought about by the modern day fast eating style. Stress and other anxieties related to pressures in your job, and other commitments could lead to indigestion.
However, nutritious and balanced is your diet, if you are a nervous eater, it won’t help. Eating is a full time business.
The Letter A
Adaptability
How many times in the past have you tried going into a diet regimen, really keeping strictly the program within a week or luckily one month, only to find out, going back to your old habit?
Don’t blame yourself; it’s not your fault. The program has conditioned you to go into well-regimented rules, which turned out to be effective in the short term but extremely difficult to adapt on a permanent basis.
Having a positive attitude is very ideal, but it is nothing if the practice is very strenuous and overly demanding.
Adaptability is a matter of personal choice and dedication, but the lesser is your struggle, while you are in the process of developing a new habit, success is inevitable.
Let’s say for example, a program which require you to take on a regular basis a dose of expensive suppressant pills, strict vegetarian diet, and complex combinations of food – how do you think can you develop a permanent habit out of this?
In order to be adaptable, a habit should be practical, easy to do, effective, economical, and permanently viable. It should bring a permanent change in terms of attitude and methodology of eating.
The Letter B
Bio-eating habit
Strictly speaking, there is no such thing as a definite time to eat. You could only think of an ideal time for you to eat. But, since man is also preoccupied with other activities aside from eating, he learnt to schedule his eating time. This is rather ideal but not totally right.
The right time to eat is when you are hungry. And since you are creature of habit, you have this breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Some advocates of diet regimen require that you should not eat, in between meals. There is nothing wrong with this advice, except, that you simply undermine the wisdom of your bio-eating clock. In this case, when to eat is insignificant, how much and what you eat will matter.
You can only see the wisdom of following the above advice, if you have a habit of eating junk foods, drink colas, pastries, sweets, etc. for your snacks and it’s even worse if you eat hurriedly because you have to beat other scheduled activities!
Remember this; your bio-eating time is hanged in between your ears. It is wiser that you include your bio-eating time in your habit. While habit is necessary, following routine is less desirable.
The Letter I
Intake
The amount of food you eat is subjective, depending upon your experiential calculations. Another thing that you have to consider is the demand of your physical and mental activities. Use your best judgment.
What is important here is that you are conscious in your food intake and you are aware of its effect to your energy supply and overall wellbeing.
It is best that you exercise sensitivity, flexibility, and practicality in arriving at your ideal amount of food intake.
Your inner wisdom knows how much is enough and how much is already too much. One thing significant here, is that you stick to what is enough on a regular and permanent basis.
The Letter T
Thanksgiving
The food you eat is not yours. You may have earned it, but other people are involved in the process.
Let’s say, for example, the rice in your plate. It has gone thru several processes, from the hand of the farmer, before you bought it from the market. Even then, your wife, maid, cook or someone else may have also been involved in cooking it. Now that it is in your plate, ready for eating, isn’t it but proper that you pay your gratitude to the people who are responsible for your food?
Your religion or belief systems are out of the question here. If you appreciate the effort of other people, you are assigning value to your food, and because it has significant value to you, you savor every taste of it, by eating slowly, chewing them properly, and really enjoy the process. Isn’t it a wonderful eating habit?
