The Four Physical Ethers
In our study of man, we will turn particularly to the Physical plane with its seven sub-plane. In our physical plane there are three dense sub-planes and four etheric sub-planes, divided thusly:
1. Solids
2. Liquids
3. Gases
4. Electric Ether
5 .Pranic Ether
6. Light Ether
7. Mental Reflecting Ether
The three lowest sub-planes the solids, liquids and gases — compose the world of matter which surrounds us, which we contact with and through our five senses.
The etheric planes, though indiscernible, are nonetheless composed of matter of the physical. The four ethers will will be our subject of investigation:

1. THE ELECTRIC ETHER
The electric ether is the most dense and the lowest of all the four physical plane ethers and inter-penetrates the atoms of the physical plane. Sometimes called the magnetic ether for it acts through the law of attraction in its effect upon physical plane atoms.
All four physical ethers are channels for the forces which emanate from the sun. The electric ether is the channel for all the physical forces with which we are familiar including electricity, magnetism, heat, sound, light, motion, the rays known as X-rays, and those known as the cosmic rays. It is not the function of this ether but only a channel for this function. . It is the penetration and the interaction of this electric ether into and upon the dense physical plane atoms which causes them to oscillate at a vibrational frequency which differentiates them from atoms of the other planes.
This electric ether manifests both positive and negative aspects which operate in man under the direction of his subconscious mind.
The Positive Aspect: Within the physical form the positive pole of the electric ether, operating under the law of attraction, draws to the body the needed elements from surrounding space and assimilates them into the physical body. The entire function of assimilation is controlled by the positive pole of the electric ether, causing the body to utilize that which it needs from its intake of material substance.
Since the entire function is directed by the subconscious mind, it is by no means a blind law. Rather, it is a selective, scientific law in action, accomplishing its purpose in a most marvelous manner to maintain the growth and proper balance of the body. If the positive pole of the electric ether is not able to manifest this balance, it is the fault of the endocrine system, principally the pituitary and thyroid glands. In such cases, usually a miscreation (freak) is the result.
Using the positive electric ether, man begins to coordinate his astral or emotional body. He becomes increasingly active in his more stabilized astral form. When man has mastered the four higher physical ethers, he will have attained a continuity of consciousness on both the astral and physical planes.

The negative aspect also works by wise; and selective law, under the direction of the subconscious mind. In its practical manifestation it attempts to repel from the body all that is needless to it in the ocean of space about us.
2. THE PRANIC ETHER
We have learn that the ethers are the channels for forces which emanate from the sun. One of these forces is that which we call prana. This second ether also emanates in other forms from other sources. Prana, is the source of vitality and life for all forms of the material plane. This pranic or life ether is polarized in the reproductive organs of man and woman. It also manifests positive and negative aspects,
The Positive Pole: operates in the female form in all her functions of reproduction. It is extremely active during her periods of gestation. The moment conception occurs the female becomes positive in polarity and she remains so during the entire period of her gestation. After the birth of her child, she returns to her normal feminine-negative aspect. In reproduction alone does the female become the positive creator through the activity of the pranic ether. This ether attracts from the elements about her that which enables her to build a new body for a new being.
The Negative Pole: of the pranic ether manifests actively in producing semen in the male specie. Thus does the pranic ether combine its positive and negative polarities in a mysterious and magnificent manner for the purpose of reproducing new forms. In all other aspects the negative pole is represented in the female, the positive in the male, and only in the reproductive sense is the male ever negative.

3. THE LIGHT ETHER
The light ether is a channel for many of the cosmic forces, but principally it is the channel through which astral light penetrates, permeates and intermingles with and among physical plane atoms. This light ether have a tremendous bearing on the emotional nature of man. It is the channel for the "emotional systems of waves" of the scientist.
The disciple must not lose sight of the fact that there are cosmic ethers on all of the planes of life corresponding to the four ethers of the physical plane. Each plane has its own specialized ethers.
This light ether binds man's emotional nature to the emotional center in his body, which is located in the solar plexus. From there it flows directly into the heart center. Some schools teach that the heart is the emotional center, others say it is in the liver. Actually the light ether flows first into the apex of the liver and then immediately enters the heart center. The liver is the "radio-receiving set" of emotional energy, via the blood.
This light ether is in perpetual motion, and radiates brilliant colors through its centers of manifestation. This ether is also the channel for a higher force called the kundalini power. Kundalini is a force which -- higher than electricity, higher than prana -- vitalizes and sustains our physical forms. Because of its form-creating function the kundalini force is often referred to as "the World Mother,"
The Positive Aspect:: Tne positive aspect generates heat in the'blood which manifests only in man and the higher species of animals, making them individual sources and powerhouses of heat. The mystery of the blood is one of the most misunderstood of all esoteric teachings. Those among the ancients who could not understand the mystery considered the blood to be the repository of such attributes as courage, strength, etc. The sages and initiates, however, recognized the presence of light ether in the blood.

Warm-blooded animals, of which man is one, come under the influence of the light ether. The temperature of man and higher animals is stabilized at about 98.6° (though slightly warmer in some animals). Outer temperatures do not cause much change, if any, in the inner temperatures — and the occult corollary is that man and the higher animals are stabilized within themselves and are not at the mercy of the vagaries of outer conditions.
The positive pole of the light ether also creates the circulation of the liquids (sap) of the plant kingdom.
The Negative Aspect: Cold-blooded animals have not yet evolved to that state in which the light ether is caused to apply its full potency to the blood, or to the "liquids" of their bodies. The temperature of these animals fluctuates with the temperature variations of the air or water in which they live. Having evolved no "built-in" stabilizer these animals are at the mercy of outer conditions.
The light ether is the channel and transmitter of the cosmic forces deposited by the sunlight. Thus during the summer months when the cosmic rays of the summer sun are extremely active, under the positive aspect of the light ether, the liquids and saps flow freely, causing new life to come again into the plant kingdom. It is the negatiye pole of the light ether which, capturing the cosmic rays from the sun, manifests them in the plant kingdom as color.
4. THE MENTAL REFLECTING ETHER
The mental reflecting ether is also radiant in color and is in perpetual motion. This is the highest ether of the physical plane, and is sometimes known as the atomic ether.
This mental reflecting ether forms the bridge between the brain structure of the physical form and the mental body of the individual.
The positive pole of the light ether also creates the circulation of the liquids (sap) of the plant kingdom.

4. THE MENTAL REFLECTING ETHER
The mental reflecting ether is also radiant in color and is in perpetual motion. This is the highest ether of the physical plane, and is sometimes known as the atomic ether.

It is the CHANNEL for the actual ethers of the mental plane. This mental reflecting ether is distributed through the brain centers and throughout the cerebrospinal nervous system. It is the channel for the vibrational waves known to scientists as the "system of mental waves" which permeate our atmosphere. It is via these mental waves that our thought processes function, and it is because of this mental reflecting ether that thought forms hover in the vicinity of our individual auras, reflecting our every thought.
Have you ever wondered what often causes the phenomena known as "hauntings" in haunted houses? Have you ever entered a room and felt a chill go up your spine because you sensed some unpleasant vibration? Or perhaps the opposite has occurred when you entered some beautiful temple and experienced a deep sense of peace, serenity and well-being. This is because the ether we call the mental reflecting ether has "photographed" events which occurred in these locales and held them there by the law of attraction.
The mental reflecting ether is like a photographic plate." It makes a "movie” of the incidents which have occurred with force and power behind them. Thus it is that an act of violence, such as murder, will sometimes be photographed by the mental reflecting ether and held fast in the locality of the happening,
This etheric "movie" will play over and over, giving rise to hauntings. The "spirit" will walk at the same time every night; the heavy chain will be dragged down a musty hall; moanings will be heard periodically. All these phenomena usually indicate that an incident which occurred in the past has, because it was charged with tremendous emotional impact, been photographed and recorded upon the mental reflecting ethers and, like a needle caught in a broken record, the etherically recorded drama will play over and over until, with the passing of time, the energy is dissipated.
This mental reflecting ether is a crude represent-ative of the akashic records which are to be found on the higher planes. Like the akashic ethers which make a permanent record of every event on earth, the mental reflecting ether also records and images the acts and thoughts of men when there is power behind them. But like all reflections they are not always exact. Many a neophyte (beginner) clairvoyant has caught visions of incidents mirrored in this reflecting ether, and has imagined himself to be in tune with the Infinite.

This ether is also the channel for the transmission of thought from one individual to another. It is this mental reflecting ether which will become increasingly active in the Aquarian Age, when telepathy is destined to become common practice.
